The Western PA Coalition for Abandoned Mine Reclamation (WPCAMR) released a video underscoring the need for reauthorization of the Abandoned Mine Lands Fund (AMLF). This fund provides a per ton fee on mined coal. AMLF dollars are used to address legacy mining impacts. Pennsylvania has $5B in documented water quality impacts from legacy mining. Due to a down turn in coal production, Pennsylvania is approximately $165M behind 2006 payout projections. With AMLF slated to sunset in 2021, interest is building for renewed efforts to find dedicated funding past 2021!
